Christmas 2006

The 2006 Awards Banquet Was A Success
by Frank Haas, KB4T, Treasurer

We all were actually winners. But some of us went home with some cool stuff after a great meal!

I'm talking about the 2006 DBARA Annual Awards Banquet, of course. 42 DBARA Members, friends and relatives supped together at the Country Harvest Buffet at the Sunshine Park Mall in South Daytona Sunday evening 10 December.

President Tom Davies AA3AS mastered the ceremonies awarding Amateur of the Year to Jeff Mathews KG4DHZ. The President's Award was presented to John Locicero K4TUG (ex KD5IBY). Various other certificates of appreciation and certificates of merit were awarded to members who have contributed to the betterment of the club and the hobby. Mr. Tom Dundon, a local business man responsible for donating more than 60 high capacity batteries to club members received a special certificate of appreciation.

We enjoyed some very good food. I particularly enjoyed the roast chicken  and fresh vegetables. Johanne N4HQE, my XYL, fixed up a really tasty dessert which I ate on the installment plan while I handled the prize giveaways. Those of you who have issues with the food at this restaurant are cheating yourselves! Everything was fresh and delicious and, of course, being a buffet, there was plenty to choose from and plenty to eat.

A brand new Eton E5 AM/FM/SW portable receiver ($150 value) was won by the XYL of Club President Tom Davies AA3AS. She was very happy to win the prize. When Tom suggested he might play with it, Mrs. Davies was heard to disagree. Steve Szabo WB4OMM donated a nice bottle of champagne and a nice bottle of wine. Alberta Amundson, friend of Rose Parrack WA1VOP won the champagne. Steve Szabo's mother, E. Szabo, won the wine. Mac McReynolds K4JDV won a set of 4 small bottles of wine in a gift pack which I believe was donated by Ms. Amundson.

Numerous late edition ARRL publications donated by RATS, Inc. were given away. The 2007 ARRL Handbook ($45) was won by George Bowen KI4QGC. Mrs. Tom Dundon won the latest ARRL Antenna Book ($45). Bill Schwartz WS1C (ex WA4JCP) won the latest edition of the ARRL Operating Manual ($30). Bob Ledford WA4IDI donated two copies of the ARRL Repeater Directory which were won by Tom Davies AA3AS and perennial Banquet prize winner Kristina Szabo, harmonic of Steve Szabo WB4OMM.

DBARA logged another successful annual awards banquet. We're delighted with the turnout and hope everyone enjoyed themselves, the presentations, the food and the prizes. I hope to see everyone of you at next year's affair.

Please send a note to President Davies with your comments and impressions about the banquet. The Board tries to put together an affair that you will be pleased to attend and offers a good return on your ticket price. Email or call Tom today and tell him what you liked and didn't like so we can make the annual awards banquet an ever greater success next year.

73 to all and to all Happy Holidays!
