AB4PM/Portable Operations

Portable Ham Radio Demonstration
Schedule and Locations

The operation goes on until either the band propagation or battery life hits ZERO! Normally they hang in there for two to three hours or the fun meter pegs out which ever comes first.

If you should desire to communicate with them at the site of the day, call AB4PM or K44TUG on 147.150 MHz, +600 KHz offset, no tone.  If K4BV/R is not available or reachable try W2DU/R at 147.240 MHz, +600 KHz offset, tone 123.0 Hz.

Hi Folks

Last week we had 12 Ops show up at Sanchez Park. Conditions were not that great but we had some great croos table QSOs.

Join us this Wednesday, 7 May at 1100 local for another portable OP. We will be at Bethune Point Park in Daytona Beach at the east end of Belleview Avenue.

Turn off South Beach St at TUG’s place (K4TUG lives at corner of Beach & Belleview).

We will monitor 147.150 for talk in and hope to see you there.

Hi Gang

 Last Wednesday a sizable group showed up at Reed Canal Park. We set up 2 stations, one on CW and one on phone. We did not exactly burn up the airwaves. The conditions were typical of our most recent outings. Lets hope things pick up this week.

 On Wednesday, the 30th, we will return to Sanchez Park in Ormond Beach. I plan to bring an 80m doublet that plays well on most Ham bands and I will also bring my Buddipole. There are lots of trees available so bring your wire antennas and lets hang em high. I’ll bring my world famous “slinky” antenna and see if we can duplicate last weeks efforts and complete a call or two to the west coast.

 Place = Sanchez Park

Date = 4/30

Time = 11:00am (EDT)

Talk-in = 147.150

Hi gang,

 We had a wonderful portable OP last Wednesday at Central Park in Ormond Beach. There were at least 12 of us there. Can we exceed that number this week?

Reed Canal Park in South Daytona is next up. We will gather at the pavilion on the East side of the park. Enter from Reed Canal Rd. The official start time on Wednesday, April 23 is 11AM. However, some of us usually arrive early to set up the station antennas.

Bring your radio, bring your lunch, bring yourself and enjoy a pleasant day with your friends here in Daytona and, via the magic of radio, around the world.

Hi Gang,

Well I am ready for this week’s portable OP after missing last week. I hope you are all ready too. We will try Daytona Beach’s newest park, Manatee Island on Wednesday. Manatee Island is located adjacent to the west bank of the ICW just to the south of the Main Street Bridge.

Access is from Beach St via a footbridge behind a City owned former residence about 500 yards north of the News-Journal Center. Parking is available on Beach St however the limit is 2 hours. I plan to unload my equipment and transport it across the footbridge in a little red wagon. Then, with help from my friends, I will set up a station at the covered pavilion to the left of the footbridge.

Once the station is set up and operating I will cross the bridge and relocate my truck to the parking lot at the County building a little to the south. I am not into paying parking fines, hi hi.

I will arrive between 1000 & 1030 with the goal of being on air by 1100 and I plan to operate until 1400. We will monitor the club’s repeater 147.150 for talk in. I hope to see YOU there.

AAR for 19 March 2008

Hi gang

We had a good OP last Wednesday. Made 12 contacts in 2.5 hrs, most on 17m. Used a HB 2 band dipole up 25 ft.

This week we will return to Reed Canal Park in South Daytona. Usual time and talk-in on club repeater.

Does anyone have a 100 ft tape measure? If so, please bring it to the park. I need some help measuring, cutting wire for an 80m dipole.

AAR for 27 Feb 2008

Hi Gang

We had a shortened OP last week. Only 5 of us showed and it was way to cold. The highlight of the day was KI4ZAG making his first HF QSO. Congratulations Jayson.

This Wednesday March 5 we will avoid the crowds of Bike Week and operate at Central Park North on Hammock Lane in Ormond Beach. You should all be familiar with it by now but if you need directions contact me. Talk in will, as usual, be on 147.150 MHz.

Hope to see YOU there.

AAR  for 30 Jan 2008

A small group gathering of about ten showed up for a session of antenna talk, radio gossip, some operating time and a whole heap of fellowship.  It was a very pleasant day with a equally pleasant group of hams. QRP and non QRP together.

AAR FOR 23 JAN 2008

Last week was great fun. We had 11 Ops gather at Reed Canal Pak to play QRP radio. Two HF stations were set up and we successfully made 5w SSB contacts and 2w CW contacts. Jeff set up his laptop with DX Cluster software and used the park’s free WiFi network to keep us informed of activity on the bands.

AAR For 2 January 2008

Hi Gang

It was too cold to set up on the banks of the ICW so we relocated to Sanchez Park. We had a good session, made about 10 calls and had about 7 Hams show up.

 Since we couldn’t handle the cold last week we missed out on a new operating location so…………………………………

 This coming Wednesday 09 JAN 2008 we will operate at a new venue. Colin's Park on University Blvd in Daytona Beach. Take Halifax Dr to University Blvd. The DBFD Station 3 is on the corner. Turn West onto University and find a (legal) parking spot. Parking is limited. There is a pier at the end of university that leads to a covered gazebo over the ICW. We will set up there at 1100 and operate until about 1400.  Yup, we will dress warmer. I hope to see you there
