Why Should I Belong:

Why should I join the Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association?

  • To further my amateur radio experience.
  • To network with other ham radio people.
  • To get out of the house and socialize with other hams.
  • To become involved in the DBARA organization.
  • To make a difference in the DBARA organization and the local ham radio community.
  • To share my ham radio expertise with others less fortunate to be as knowledgeable as I am in my fields of expertise.

Question: I think I want to be a member of the Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association. How do I become one?

Answer: First of all, we really would like for you to come to a meeting and meet everyone. But this is not a mandatory requirement.

Fill out an application for membership:

Fill it out completely either by using your computer, pencil, ink pen or other means.

Present it to the Secretary of the organization along with your enrollment fee of $25.00 for the first years dues. If for some unknown reason the membership elects not to accept your membership it will be returned to you immediately. (Fear not this only occurs about once every fifty-nine years).

The Secretary or Treasurer will present it to the President and he will present it to the membership for approval by a majority vote of all members present at the meeting.

When you have been approved by the membership your dues payment goes to the Treasurer who will then initiate getting your "new membership package" to you.

New Member Kit:

New members to the DBARA organization will be given a new member kit when they have been officially accepted into the organization and paid their dues. The one exception to this rule is those members that are granted "Special new membership status under the New VE licensee program. The "Club Treasurer" is the sole provider of both, membership kit and badges. The new membership kit consists of a CD-ROM that has the official organizational documents on it. Explaining how the organization functions and the duties of the officers and directors. He orders all official DBARA name tags. New or replacement name tags take from 30 to 60 days to be ordered, manufactured and received. They are distributed when available at general membership meetings.

Existing Member Call Sign Badges: What happens to an old member when they either lose, break or change call signs in regards to their membership badge? Contact Stephen Szabo, WB4OMM, Treasurer, and he will order you a replacement for the cost of the new official DBARA name tag. Replacement name tags take from 30 to 60 days to be ordered, manufactured and received. They are distributed at every general membership meeting.

New Benefit for Newly Licensed Technician Hams Passing their Ham Examination Test
by Frank Haas, Treasurer, DBARA

This program was renewed for CY-2008 with one change. All Special Licensees granted membership have voting rights same as a paid membership holder.
By order of the 2008 President and Board of Directors.

Please help spread the word!

At its January meeting, the membership of DBARA voted to give FREE "remainder of the year" club membership to any newly licensed local Technician ham as a reward for successfully completing their studies and passing their first licensing exam.

Here's how it works:

Local Volunteer Examiner teams are being asked to present special membership applications to all UNLICENSED persons who successfully pass their Amateur Radio Licensing Exam.

The successful examinee will then bring the special membership application AND their Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination to the next DBARA meeting and their membership dues will be waived for the remainder of the year in which they join.

When these new members receive their call signs they will be eligible to buy a DBARA Name Badge emblazoned with their call sign for $5.00 (the club's cost for the badge).

The special membership applications are available and have been distributed to all local Volunteer Examiner Teams. If they do not have them out be sure to ask for one.

Contact DBARA anytime at k4bv or 386-226-4618 with any questions.

73 & Good luck on your test!
