The Portable Operations Day Schedules
These "happenings" are just that
"a
happening that may or may not transpire due to the following
occurrences; to windy, wet, cold, hot, oversleeping,
conflict with the "significant others plans" or traffic.
"
The "normal time is" (Define normal to a
retiree) anywhere from 1000 hours to 1300 hours. In
reality, it is from the time the first person gets there and
lasts until everyone gets bored, the equipment breaks, the
batteries run down, the conversation dies out or whatever
excuse works the best for a lack of wanting to be there.
Take your hand held with you and use the
147.150 K4BV repeater and call for "anyone at the portable
site." But don't be surprised if no one come back to
you for the following reasons; did not hear you for
all the ambient noises, battery ran down, turned it
off for the hard to hear stations on HF, operating CW,
operating PSK, left it in the car as they did not have
enough hands to carry everything or just plain ignoring your
call.
Don't expect a sign wi th arrows as we only have one set and the
last holder/user may not be there or left them in the garage or at the last site
and when he went back to get them the City of XXXXXXXXXXXX picked them up as a
violation of the no sign rule.
Don't expect to find a bunch of antennas that are visible as
most of the portable antennas are either dipoles, long wires or Buddipole's and
very low visibility. Most of the "/p" operatives are not "/M" equipped.
This list is subject to change at a moments notice.
